Cleaning events planned

Cleanup in the city of Harrisonville gets underway this weekend. In addition to the Citywide Garage Sale, sponsored by The South Cass Tribune, city residents will also have a chance to drop off brush and tree limbs.

The brush drop off will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday at City Park. Signs will show the way in and crews will be available.

Items should be less than 10 inches in diameter. No yard waste will be accepted ans proof of residency is required. Mulch will not be available.

On May 7-8, the citywide cleanup will be held. Items can be brought to the street department facility at 1403 S. Independence.

Items accepted at no cost include non-Freon appliances and metal items, water heaters, furniture, light construction debris, limited to one 16-foot trailer, and household trash. Items not accepted include Freon appliances, tires, auto batteries, oil, hazardous chemicals, paint, roofing shingles and yard waste.

This event is only available for those who live within the city limits. To participate, residents will be required to provide proof of residency.

Municipal Waste Services would also like to remind residents they will pick up one bulky item per month for free. To get your free item picked up, contact Municipal Waste Services at 816-406-9700 to schedule the pick-up.

On May 22, the third event on the schedule is the annual Household Hazardous Waste Disposal from 8 a.m. to noon or until capacity is reached. The event will be held at the Harrisonville Street Department facility.

HHW includes products such as paint, automotive fluids, cleaners, lawn and garden products, bug sprays, fluorescent light bulbs, batteries and nail polish.

The city of Harrisonville is a member of the Regional Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program, a service coordinated by the Mid-America Regional Council Solid Waste Management District. The event will only be available to residents of communities that are members of MARC’s Regional Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program.
