June book club meetings at the library

A variety of book clubs will meet during June at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library.

  • 6:30 p.m., June 6 – Inspirational Book Club: Get inspired by wholesome reads.
  • 6:30 p.m., June 9 – Mystery Book Club: These ‘who done its’ will keep you on the edge of your seat.
  • Noon, June 10 – Brown Bag Book Club: Bring your lunch and thoughts on the book for a relaxing midday break.
  • 6:30 p.m., June 10 – Monday Night Book Club: Pick one of the titles on U.S. Immigration on display or pick your own to discuss with the group.
  • June 21 – Loosely Bound Facebook Book Club: Join an online chat throughout the day about a summer reading themed book.

 

Fridays June 7 through July 12

Learn about healthy food

Youngsters are invited to hear about how healthy foods are out of this world at 11 a.m. Fridays at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library. This program is in cooperation with the University of Missouri Extension.

Enjoy story time with Miss Rhonda and have a healthy snack. A bonus is that all the books you hear count toward summer reading goals.

Join the Minecraft Club at the library

Youth ages 8 to 14 are invited to join the Summer Minecraft Club and enjoy great space-themed challenges at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library.

The group meets from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursdays.

Kick off summer reading with a ‘Space Blast’

The Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library is having a kick-off party for the whole family for its summer reading program, “Space Blast,” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 3.

The event will feature games, crafts, treats and fun.

The summer reading program is sponsored by Stafford and Stafford Insurance and American Heritage Realtors.

Teen Advisory Board to meet

The Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library invites students in grades six through 12 to join it Teen Advisory Board. The group will meet at 3:30 p.m. June 4.

Make new friends, accumulate volunteer service hours, suggest books, movies and more and help design teen programs and displays.

Stop the Bleed program offered

Cass Regional Medical Center will host a free Stop the Bleed educational program from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Conference Rooms 1 and 2, located directly inside the main entrance of Cass Regional at 2800 E. Rock Haven Rd., Harrisonville.

Victims can quickly die from uncontrolled bleeding, within five to 10 minutes. However, with proper training anyone at the scene can act as an immediate responder. The Stop the Bleed program includes instruction and practice on proper bleeding control techniques, including how to use your hands, dressings and tourniquets.

Free community health screenings offered

Cass Regional Medical Center will provide free health screenings from 9 to 11:30 a.m. June 7, at Meadow View Estates. 533 Meadow View Circle, Peculiar.

Receive free blood pressure, blood oxygen, and blood sugar screenings, and obtain a free total lipid profile, which measures total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides. For most accurate results, screening participants are asked to fast for at least 12 hours prior to the screening and take medications as usual (with water only). No appointments are necessary.

The event is scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m.

COPD Support Group to meet

Cass Regional Medical Center will host a COPD Support Group at 11:30 a.m. June 12 at Cass Regional in Conference Rooms 1, 2 and 3 located directly inside the main entrance of the hospital at 2800 E. Rock Haven Rd., Harrisonville.

This support group is for those diagnosed with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and their caregivers. Participants provide support to one another and learn methods to manage their conditions while taking part in everyday activities.

Cass Regional Medical Center will host a free Diabetes Support Group meeting at 6:30 pm. June 20 in Conference Rooms 1, 2 and 3, located directly inside the main entrance of Cass Regional at 2800 East Rock Haven Rd., Harrisonville.

Monthly, Cass Regional’s Diabetes Education team presents topics on current trends in diabetes treatments, lifestyle modification options and topics of interest for those who have diabetes or who have loved ones diagnosed with diabetes.
