Make arts and crafts projects at the library
Make fun and creative arts and crafts projects at the Harrisonville branch of the Cass County Public Library. Activities will include painting, weaving, sculpture and more.
The classes are for grades four through six and spaces are limited. The sessions will be held from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. Thursdays Feb. 21 through March 28.

GriefShare group to meet
After the funeral, when the cards and flowers have stopped coming, most of the people around you return to their normal lives. But your grief continues and you feel alone. Often, friends and family want to help you, but they don’t know how. That’s the reason for GriefShare.
The group is led by caring people who have experienced grief and successfully rebuilt their lives. We want to walk with you on the path through grief toward healing and hope for the future.
Participants are invited to the group that meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, through April 10.
There is a $15 registration fee for the cost of the book. Scholarships are available.

GriedShare to meet in Archie
GriefShare seminars will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays through May 4 at the Archie Baptist Church, 302 S. Missouri St., Archie.
GriefShare is a special 13-week seminar and support group designed to help you rebuild your life after the death of a loved one.
There is a $15 registration fee that covers the workbook, journal and refreshments.

Civil War Roundtable to meet
The Cass County Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at Pearson Hall in the Cass County Public Library building, 400 E. Mechanic St., Harrisonville.
The speaker will be Jackie Polsgrove-Roberts, who will discuss Missouri Masonic lodges during the Civil War.
Guests are always welcome.

Winter Market scheduled
The Winter Market will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 16 at Mill Walk Mall,
The Winter Market offers artists, crafters and farmers market vendors an opportunity to offer their unique products for sale during the late fall, winter and early spring months when traditional farmers markets are closed.
There will be drawings this month to raise funds for the Cass County Council on Aging.

Taco Tuesday returning To VFW
Taco Tuesday is returning for a limited time at VFW Post 4409, 1804 N. Commercial St., Harrisonville.
Tacos will be available while supplies last from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19, March 19, April 16, and May 21.
Deep-fried tacos are $1.50 each, and the public is welcome to dine in or carry out orders.

Steak Night is held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. the third Saturday of each month.
Feb. 22 and March 5
Pesticide training scheduled
Cass County will have its annual Private Pesticide Applicators Training at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 22 and 6 p.m. March 5.
To register, call the Cass County Extension Center at 816-380-8460. Those planning to attend are asked to call at least one week before the class.
In case of bad weather, the classes may be rescheduled.
Attendees are also asked to let the staff know at registration if any special accommodations are needed.
Attendees are required to purchase a manual (M87) for $12 unless they bring a 2007 copy of the manual with them.

Methodist men to serve chili
The Harrisonville United Methodist men will have a chili dinner from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 23.
The meal will include chili, beverages and dessert. Vegetable soup and hot dogs will also be available.
The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under.
The church is located at 2600 E. Mechanic St., Harrisonville.

Town hall meeting scheduled
Aldermen Judith Reece and Judy Bowman invite area residents to a town hall meeting at 9 a.m. March 2 in The HUB at the Harrisonville United Methodist Church, 2600 E. Mechanic St., Harrisonville.
Cass Regional Medical Center’s Trauma Program Coordinator Paula McBride, RN, CEN., will be the guest presenter.
McBride will demonstrate the capabilities of “Trauma Hal,” the newest member of the CRMC patient simulator family which is used for the ongoing training and preparedness of Cass Regional’s Emergency Department staff and area EMS professionals. She will also discuss “Stop the Bleed”, a national awareness campaign to educate first responders, teachers and the public about bleeding control.
There will be time for questions following the presentation and refreshments will be served.

R-9 retirees invited to lunch
The Harrisonville School District will host the spring luncheon for district retirees from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 4 at the District Administrative Offices, 503 S. Lexington St.
The luncheon will include an update on finance and facilities from Superintendent Paul Mensching, as well as time for questions.

As part of its efforts to gather input from staff, parents and the community, the Harrisonville School District has started hosting Community Conversations twice each year. The first event was in November and the district will host the next one from 6 to 7 p.m. March 5 in the Harrisonville High School library.
The event will include an overview of the district finance and facilities by Superintendent Paul Mensching and there will be time for questions and answers as well.

Boost your brain and memory
The University of Missouri Extension in Cass County is offering a Boost Your Brain and Memory: Brain Fitness Class.
The class uses a whole-person approach that helps you form new habits to live a healthier lifestyle, remember things better, be more organized, pay closer attention and regulate your emotions.
Each participant will receive a workbook including memory exercises, tips on nutrition and exercise, and summaries of evidence-based research on brain health.
There is a $40 cost associated with the program, which includes a workbook for each participant.
Classes are scheduled 11 a.m. to noon Mondays and Wednesdays Feb. 27 through March 25 at the University of Missouri Extension Center, 201 W. Wall St., Harrisonville.
