Monday afternoon was especially busy for members of the Harrisonville Police Department with two major events occurring just an hour apart. At about 3:15 p.m. officers were called to the intersection of South and Eastwood streets where an eighth grader had reportedly been hit by a school bus. The student was transported to Children’s Mercy Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. At about 4:10 p.m. an officer followed a car for a traffic violation on Mechanic Street. The car pulled into the Cenex Station at 1901 E. Mechanic St. While speaking with the three occupants of the vehicle, the driver, a male, took off running. He was pursued and found hiding in some bushes at a residence on Quail Street. He and the other two inhabitants of the car, both females, were arrested, but charges were not known at press time and their names had not been released. Lt. Chris Osterberg of the HPD did say that guns had been recovered in the car.
